Tirupati, the land of Srinivasa Govinda is one of the most popular spiritual places located in Andhra Pradesh state, India. Tirupati with a history of 5000 years was once ruled by Sri Krishnadevaraya from the Vijayanagara Empire. Sri Krishnadevaraya was the main person behind the development of Tirumala Hill which hosts Sri Govinda Temple. Reddamma Mess is situated in Tirupati and it is serving Non-Vegetarian food for Generations. Even though I don’t know the exact launch date, my father used to tell me that he used to eat at this place when he was very young. So on that testimonial, Reddamma Mess is more than 50 years old for sure.

Review

Reddamma Mess is the oldest Non-Vegetarian restaurant in Tirupati. Before I talk about food, let me tell you that this is a mess, therefore, expect it to be a little messy. You can’t expect ambience or fancy seating but the food is to die for. Reddamma Mess serves what seems to the authentic Andhra local food. They serve three different types of meat namely Chicken, Mutton or Lamb and Fish. The lamb dishes are most popular here like Lamb Brain, Boti (Lamb Intestine), Mutton Fry, Kheema (Minced Lamb) etc. Reddamma Mess is also famous for its unique way of serving food. The server brings everything on a big plate and asks you what you want. Once you select it, he will just slide it onto your banana leaf. So here is what I tried

Fish, Lamb Brain, Boti Fry, Chicken Fry, Mutton Fry, Kheema and Biryani. In that, I didn’t like Biryani at all. I asked Reddemma and She told me that Biryani is a new item and I think that is the reason it was not good. However, all the other dishes I tried were extraordinary. The taste was authentic with well-blended spices and the meat was cooked to perfection. So if you are travelling to Tirupati, make sure you visit Reddamma Mess at least once. If not before, maybe after the darshan.
